Avoid Eye Contact by HAZ SOLO (Milwaukee, WI)*
The musical creations of Milwaukee’s HAZ SOLO are something like re-transmitted classic soul recordings being played on board a space station, everything from the beat to the melody to the samples taking on new life having traveled light years to be heard. The latest album is Avoid Eye Contact and it is everything classic hip-hop and electronic music lovers crave combined with futuristic sounds, textures, and grooves karate chopped to pieces. There is a mid-western soul/hip-hop vibe that I find to be constant throughout it thanks to some primo samples and my favorite element being the Dilla-esque crispy high hat and tambourine sounds. Intelligent compositions with some really innovative usage of staple studio gear like organs, clavs, and more. @thinknotsleep
